- AROS
- Mott MacDonald
- Fulcrum Consulting
- Larsen & Toubro Limited
- Castings Development Centre
- Dalal Consultants and Engineers Limited
- Delcam
AROS
AROS,
the lead architect for the Maitreya Project, was formed in 2001
by an enthusiastic team who, whilst previously working at Whinney
Mackay Lewis, won the international architectural competition for
the Project.
The Project's concept design and master planning continues to be developed by AROS. The AROS studio is also providing advice to the art programme, materials research and strategical advice.
AROS is a design studio keen to develop a diverse portfolio of work with clients where cross-fertilisation of ideas between architects, artists, sculptors, craftsman, engineers and constructors can be developed into reality.
Given the complexities of the design of the Maitreya Project, the AROS studio is developing enormous experience in inter-operability and extranet communication - the ability to communicate and execute a construction project via an intelligent, 3-D, fully developed computer model.

Mott MacDonald
As Project Managers for the Maitreya Project, Mott MacDonald
has overall responsibility for co-ordinating the whole design and
construction process. A small project management team under the
leadership of the Project Manager, Allan Ockenden, is working closely
with Maitreya Project's Director, Peter Kedge, and members of the
MPI Steering Group to guide the progress of the Project. This will
include control of the programme, cost and quality within the parameters
set down in the Project brief.

Larsen & Toubro Limited
Larsen
& Toubro's contribution to the 500ft / 152m statue of Maitreya Buddha
shall be mainly in formulation of construction methodology, material
identification and sourcing for such an enduring structure, logistic
assistance and management, collection of data towards relevant environmental
studies, formulation of a policy for achieving objectives of the
1,000 year lifespan of the bronze statue and the other supporting
structures, construction including contracting for civil works,
welding of intricate elements for the structures, mechanical works,
HVAC, electrical works, landscaping, other site related activities,
erection, finishing and overall site management. Being the local
member of the Maitreya team, L&T's involvement in all the above
aspects will be a major benefit to the Project.

Castings Development Centre
The
Maitreya Project requires 5,000-7,000 panels to be produced as castings
- each with a different geometry! It would be prohibitively expensive
to manufacture a pattern for each geometry, and then to make the
sand mould into which metal would be cast. The Castings Development
Centre (CDC) in Sheffield, England, has come up with a 'custom-designed'
technology ideally suited to Maitreya Project's needs. CDC has a
large-scale machining system which can cut the moulds directly from
blocks of moulding sand. And it can do this automatically from a
3-D model of the part held in a computer.
